Psalms 139

Search me, O God - The Psalmist is willing, nay, he invites the Lord to search him. God's servants need not fear the fullest scrutiny.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? - God is everywhere present. It is impossible to escape from his presence.

O Lord, thou hast searched me - Thou knowest me thoroughly; thine all-penetrating glance has gone through me as the mass is run through by the assayer.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Made with such wisdom and skill as might cause fear and astonishment in all that consider it.

Thou hast searched me - Examined his heart, and tried his reins; knew what was in him, what were the thoughts and intents of his heart.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? - Thou art an omnipresent Being; thy essence is diffused through the whole of space and throughout eternity.

O Lord, thou hast searched me - Thou hast thoroughly investigated my whole soul and conduct.

Search me, O God - This is a prayer that God would try him, and discover him to himself.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made - I am admirably and wonderfully made, both body and soul.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? - We cannot go anywhere from thy spirit, we cannot go out of thy reach.

O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me - God knows us better than we know ourselves.
