Psalms 91

He that dwelleth - He who habitually makes God his refuge and protection.

He that dwelleth - Whose constant disposition and delight it is to live in a holy, humble dependence upon God.

He shall cover thee with his feathers - What condescension is this, that God should compare himself to a hen sheltering her brood!

He that dwelleth - We must dwell - we must abide under the Divine protection. This is no transient visit, but an abiding dwelling.

He shall give his angels charge over thee - This is true of all the saints, who are kept by the power of God, ministering spirits attending them.

He that dwelleth in the secret place - Not he that merely betakes himself to it, but he that continues in it.

He shall give his angels charge - He shall give his angels - messengers, a commission or commandment to keep thee.

He that dwelleth in the secret place - He who makes God his refuge shall be safe from all evil; nothing can hurt him who has the Almighty for his shield.

He shall give his angels charge over thee - This is a precious promise for all the saints.

He shall cover thee with his feathers - This denotes the tenderness of God's care over his people.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress - We must in particular apply the general promises to ourselves.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High - To dwell in the secret place is to keep up daily fellowship with God.
