The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
Υἱὸς σοφὸς εὐφραίνει πατέρα, υἱὸς δὲ ἄφρων λύπη τῇ μητρί.
2
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Οὐκ ὠφελήσουσι θησαυροὶ ἀνόμους, δικαιοσύνη δὲ ῥύσεται ἐκ θανάτου.
3
The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
Οὐ λιμοκτονήσει Κύριος ψυχὴν δικαίαν, ζωὴν δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἀνατρέψει.
4
He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
Πενία ἄνδρα ταπεινοῖ, χεῖρες δὲ ἀνδρείων πλουτίζουσιν· υἱὸς πεπαιδευμένος σοφὸς ἔσται, τῷ δὲ ἄφρονι διακόνῳ χρήσεται.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Διεσώθη ἀπὸ καύματος υἱὸς νοήμων, ἀνεμόφθορος δὲ γίνεται ἐν ἀμητῷ υἱὸς παράνομος.

Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
Εὐλογία Κυρίου ἐπὶ κεφαλὴν δικαίου, στόμα δὲ ἀσεβῶν καλύψει πένθος ἄωρον.

The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
Μνήμη δικαίων μετʼ ἐγκωμίων, ὄνομα δὲ ἀσεβοῦς σβέννυται.

The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
Σοφὸς καρδίᾳ δέξεται ἐντολὰς, ὁ δὲ ἄστεγος χείλες σκολιάζων ὑποσκελισθήσεται.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
Ὃς πορεύεται ἁπλῶς, πορεύεται πεποιθώς· ὁ δὲ διαστρέφων τὰς ὁδοὺς αὐτοῦ, γνωσθήσεται.
10
He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
Ὁ ἐννεύων ὀφθαλμοῖς μετὰ δόλου, συνάγει ἀνδράσι λύπας· ὁ δὲ ἐλέγχων μετὰ παῤῥησίας, εἰρηνοποιεῖ.

The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
Πηγὴ ζωῆς ἐν χειρὶ δικαίου, στόμα δὲ ἀσεβοῦς καλύψει ἀπώλεια.
12
Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Μῖσος ἐγείρει νεῖκος, πάντας δὲ τοὺς μὴ φιλονεικοῦντας καλύπτει φιλία.
13
In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
Ὃ ἐκ χειλέων προφέρει σοφίαν, ῥάβδῳ τύπτει ἄνδρα ἀκάρδιον.
14
Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
Σοφοὶ κρύψουσιν αἴσθησιν, στόμα δὲ προπετοῦς ἐγγίζει συντριβῇ.
15
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
Κτῆσις πλουσίων πόλις ὀχυρὰ, συντριβὴ δὲ ἀσεβῶν πενία.
16
The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
Ἔργα δικαίων ζωὴν ποιεῖ, καρποὶ δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἁμαρτίας.
17
He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
Ὁδοὺς δικαίας ζωῆς φυλάσσει παιδεία, παιδεία δὲ ἀνεξέλεγκτος πλανᾶται.
18
He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
Καλύπτουσιν ἔχθραν χείλη δίκαια, οἱ δὲ ἐκφέροντες λοιδορίας ἀφρονέστατοί εἰσιν.
19
In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
Ἐκ πολυλογίας οὐκ ἐκφεύξῃ ἁμαρτίαν, φειδόμενος δὲ χειλέων νοήμων ἔσῃ.
20
The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
Ἄργυρος πεπυρωμένος γλῶσσα δικαίου, καρδία δὲ ἀσεβοῦς ἐκλείψει.
21
The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.
Χείλη δικαίων ἐπίσταται ὑψηλὰ, οἱ δὲ ἄφρονες ἐν ἐνδείᾳ τελευτῶσιν.
22
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
Εὐλογία Κυρίου ἐπὶ κεφαλὴν δικαίου, αὕτη πλουτίζει, καὶ οὐ μὴ προστεθῇ αὐτῇ λύπη ἐν καρδίᾳ.

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
Ἐν γέλωτι ἄφρων πράσσει κακὰ, ἡ δὲ σοφία ἀνδρὶ τίκτει φρόνησιν.
24
The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
Ἐν ἀπωλείᾳ ἀσεβὴς περιφέρεται, ἐπιθυμία δὲ δικαίου δεκτή.
25
As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
Παραπορευομένης καταιγίδος ἀφανίζεται ἀσεβὴς, δίκαιος δὲ ἐκκλίνας σώζεται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
Ὥσπερ ὄμφαξ ὀδοῦσι βλαβερὸν, καὶ καπνὸς ὄμμασιν, οὕτως παρανομία τοῖς χρωμένοις αὐτῇ.

The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
Φόβος Κυρίου προστίθησιν ἡμέρας, ἔτη δὲ ἀσεβῶν ὀλιγωθήσεται.
28
The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
Ἐγχρονίζει δικαίοις εὐφροσύνη, ἐλπὶς δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἀπολεῖται.
29
The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
Ὀχύρωμα ὁσίου φόβος Κυρίου, συντριβὴ δὲ τοῖς ἐργαζομένοις κακά.
30
The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
Δίκαιος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα οὐκ ἐνδώσει, ἀσεβεῖς δὲ οὐκ οἰκήσουσι γῆν.
31
The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
Στόμα δικαίου ἀποστάζει σοφίαν, γλῶσσα δὲ ἀδίκου ἐξολεῖται.
32
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
Χείλη ἀνδρῶν δικαίων ἀποστάζει χάριτας, στόμα δὲ ἀσεβῶν ἀποστρέφεται.
